Built by people who understand what's underground.
MDT Underground started with one man, a shovel, and a promise to under-promise and over-deliver. That promise still runs every job we send a crew to — from a single drop to a statewide fiber build-out.
The problem solvers of underground infrastructure
We specialize in utility construction — the buried service wire, mainline, and fiber work that keeps communities connected. Every crew we send out carries the same mandate: solve the problem in front of you, and leave the client better off than you found them.
We combine field-tested know-how with modern construction practices, so partners can complete projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule — without having to manage us to get there.
Excellence
Superior quality is the baseline, not the upsell. We hold every project to a standard that consistently exceeds what clients expect going in.
Integrity
Transparent dealings, straight timelines, no surprises. Trust with clients and stakeholders is built one honest update at a time.
Safety
Non-negotiable, every crew, every site. We hold to the highest standards to protect our people and the public around every trench.
From one shovel to statewide build-outs
Founded on buried service wire
MDT Underground began as a Buried Service Wire installation outfit — one man, a shovel, and a dream, backed by little more than sweat equity and relentless determination.
Mainline & Fiber Splicing division launches
As the team grew past 30 people and 1,000 drops a week, we launched a dedicated Mainline and Fiber Splicing division — letting us take on construction and fiber build-out projects, not just drops.
BSW, mainline, and fiber under one crew
We now run BSW drop work, mainline build-out construction, and fiber splicing/enclosure construction side by side — staying fluid as the industry evolves, without losing the emphasis on communication, quality, and speed we started with.
Run the way we'd want our own contractors to run
Our operating model comes from a simple test: how would we want a contractor working for us to behave? That means total transparency, open communication, and a structure built to move as fast as our clients' priorities change — sometimes yearly, sometimes daily.
Strong administration underneath all of it means what a client needs gets to a crew in the field fast, so we meet our metrics without slowing anyone down.
A named point of contact, every level
Every client gets designated points of contact at each level of their project, so we prioritize correctly as needs shift — including emergency jobs that require re-routing field crews on short notice.
We apply that same discipline to city Right-of-Way departments and the 811 system, keeping strong working relationships with cities and locators so jobs land on time — and so the completion dates we give you are ones we can stand behind.
Built to flex without breaking
We stay equipped to exceed expectations through a field support structure we call the rule of 5: one field manager for every five crews. That ratio means being overburdened is never an excuse — for our leadership or for you.
Field managers work closely with administrative staff on quality, billing, and speed, so we can back up what we tell you with results, not just words.
The job isn't done until it's right
If we're contracted to complete a job, we meet or exceed the requirements set by the client — full stop. Work that falls short of what was agreed isn't considered finished, and that mindset runs through every crew and every staff member.
In-house quality control positions and monthly audits keep field managers accountable to their teams, so issues get caught and corrected before they escalate — backed by an organized chargeback process to guarantee quality on your end.
One point of contact, top to field
A dedicated Project Administrator works in sync with a Project Manager, giving every client a single point of contact who can adjust field crew priorities in real time — so emergencies and shifting priorities get handled the same day.
That administrator routes and dispatches crews, manages job documentation, and provides live support to the field — coordinating directly with field managers whenever on-site assistance is needed. On larger projects, locates and permitting are split across multiple administrators to keep pace with city engineers and locators.
